Adidas has formally apologised after Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum criticised the sportswear brand over a shoe that replicated traditional Indigenous huarache sandals without attributing the design or crediting artisans.

He has apologised over the Oaxaca Slip-on, inspired by sandals made by Indigenous artisans, after criticism from Mexico.

Fashion designer Chavarria apologized after his collaboration with Adidas Original was charged by authorities in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, the largest producer of Huaraches, with appropriating the traditional design of the region’s huarache sandals, although there are many “original designs.”
