This wasn’t just a victory for Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. Their US Open mixed doubles title also felt like a victory for all doubles tennis players.

Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani beat Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud to win the new US Open mixed doubles final on Wednesday night.

The defending champions delivered a different sort of script Wednesday, beating Iga Świątek and Casper Ruud 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 in the final.

After a rough start to the year, Świątek (+310) is now basically neck and neck odds-wise with Sabalenka (+290), who is, again, the defending US Open champion. If anyone can unseat Sabalenka, it sure feels like Świątek is the most likely to do it.

But Świątek has surged late in the 2025 season. And building off her recent win on the grass courts at Wimbledon, she took home the Cincinnati Open 's Rookwood Cup after she beat Italian, Jasmine Paolini, 7-5, 6-4, on Aug. 18.

Poland’s Iga Świątek continued her domination of the women’s tour by winning her 34th straight match, 6-2, 6-1, over Russia’s Daria Kasatkina in the Roland Garros semifinals on Thursday.

Świątek, one tournament removed from her stunning Wimbledon title, won the most important U.S. Open tuneup by beating Jasmine Paolini 7-5, 6-4 in the final of the Cincinnati Open. She is back to No. 2 in the rankings. She is within shouting distance of world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
