MADRID, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Villarreal has signed Uruguayan central defender Santiago Mourino from Atletico Madrid after a complicated operation which also involved Alaves.

Atletico will pay an initial 12 million euros for the defender who also won an Olympic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Pubill has signed a five-year contract until 2030.
